Overnight Care at Home in Sheffield & South Yorkshire
About This Service
For many families caring for an older relative or someone with complex needs, the night is the hardest part. The phone calls wondering if they fell. The lying awake listening. The guilt of not being there. The exhaustion of disturbed nights when you have tried to be there yourself. Our overnight care service exists for exactly this — a trained, professional carer comes to your loved one's home and stays through the night, so that when the lights go down, your family member is not alone, and your family can actually rest.
For the person receiving overnight care, the presence of a calm, familiar professional through the night is genuinely transformative. People who were previously anxious, disorientated, or at risk of falls during the night find that consistent overnight support gives them confidence, stability, and genuine peace. Whether they need someone awake and active throughout the night or simply the reassurance of a professional present in the house, we build the right arrangement around their specific needs.
We offer two types of overnight support — waking nights, where a carer is awake throughout and actively monitoring, and sleeping nights, where a carer is present on site and available if needed. Our team will advise you on which is most appropriate during your free assessment. Both are provided by trained, vetted carers who are part of our regular, familiar care team — not agency strangers.

How We Can Help
Who It's For
Is This Service Right for You?
Overnight care is most valuable for people at significant risk of falls during the night; adults with dementia who become confused, distressed, or disorientated at night — especially during sundowning hours; people with continence needs requiring regular assistance; individuals recovering from surgery or illness whose condition needs monitoring through the night; adults with progressive conditions such as Parkinson's or MS who need night-time support; people living alone who feel unsafe or anxious through the night; family carers who are experiencing disturbed nights and need to rest; and those receiving live-in care who need an active overnight carer during a higher-needs period.
Our Approach
How We Deliver Your Care
Always Alert — Even When the House Is Quiet
For waking night carers, alertness is non-negotiable. Our overnight carers are experienced at remaining attentive through the night — monitoring for sounds of distress, movement, or any change in condition that requires their response. They do not simply sit — they watch.
Calm and Confident in Difficult Moments
The night can bring confusion, distress, or physical incidents. Our carers are trained to respond to these calmly and competently — de-escalating, reassuring, assisting, and escalating to emergency services when necessary. They are prepared for whatever the night may bring.
A Familiar Face — Not a Stranger
Wherever possible, we assign the same overnight carer so the person at home sees a familiar face before bed. Familiarity is especially important for people with dementia, who benefit enormously from the consistency and predictability of seeing the same trusted person each evening.
Families Kept in the Loop
We provide a brief update to family members or named contacts each morning following an overnight shift — so you always know how the night went. If something significant occurs during the night, we contact the relevant person immediately. Nothing important is ever lost in transition.
Two Types of Overnight Support
Waking Night or Sleeping Night — What Is the Difference?
We offer two distinct overnight care options. Our team will advise you on which is most appropriate during your free assessment — call us if you are unsure.
Waking Night Care
The carer is awake throughout the entire night — actively present, monitoring, and ready to respond at any moment. This is the highest level of overnight support, appropriate for those who need regular assistance or active monitoring during the night. Typically 10pm – 7am or agreed hours.
Best for: High falls risk, dementia with night confusion or distress, post-surgical monitoring, continence needs requiring regular assistance, complex night-time medication, anyone requiring continuous active supervision
Sleeping Night Care
The carer sleeps on site and is available if needed — they will respond immediately if called or if the situation requires it. This provides reassurance and a genuine safety net without continuous active monitoring. Typically 10pm – 7am with own sleeping arrangement in the home.
Best for: People who are generally safe at night but may occasionally need help, family carers who need a full night of uninterrupted sleep, lower-risk situations where presence and availability is the primary requirement
Why Choose Solace Prime Care
Local, Trusted, and Genuinely Personal
Overnight care requires an extraordinary level of trust — you are placing someone you love in the care of a professional through the most vulnerable hours of the day. Every overnight carer is fully vetted with an Enhanced DBS check, trained to a high standard, and regularly supervised by our management team. We are a small, local Sheffield team — and that means if you have a concern about an overnight visit, you speak to someone who knows your family, knows your loved one's care plan, and can act immediately. We also take the cultural matching of overnight carers to clients especially seriously, given the particular sensitivities around night-time care.
